Navratri 2023: Niramish Khichudi Recipe For Bengali Style Bhog

Start by soaking 1 cup of rice and 1/2 cup of lentils for 30 minutes. Meanwhile, chop 1 potato, 1 carrot, 1 tomato, and 1 onion. Keep aside.


In a pressure cooker, heat 2 tbsp of ghee. Add 1 tsp of cumin seeds, 1 bay leaf, and 2 cloves. Once they splutter, add the chopped vegetables and sauté for 2 minutes.


Add 1 tsp of ginger paste, 1 tsp of garlic paste, and 1 tsp of turmeric powder. Mix well and cook for another 2 minutes.


Drain the soaked rice and lentils and add them to the cooker. Add 2 cups of water, 1 tsp of salt, and 1 tsp of sugar. Mix everything together.


Close the pressure cooker and cook for 2 whistles. Let the pressure release naturally. Open the cooker and give the khichudi a good stir.


For the final touch, add 1 tsp of ghee and 1 tsp of garam masala. Mix well and let it simmer for 2 minutes.


Your Niramish Khichudi is ready to be served! Garnish with some chopped coriander leaves and serve hot with a side of papad and chutney.
